Did You Know?

Lynden and its surrounding farms are a major hub for berry production, cultivating red raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries across hundreds of acres. Manny of the areas berry farms are owned by the more than 8,000 Sikh residents of Whatcom County.

Remarkably, about 90% of the frozen red raspberries produced in the United States each year come from this area, supplying products from frozen fruit blends to yogurt and jam.

Lynden is at the heart of one of Washington State’s most productive dairy regions, with dozens of family-owned farms producing milk, cheese, and other dairy products. These farms reflect generations of agricultural expertise, contributing to the region’s reputation as a dairy powerhouse in the Pacific Northwest.

Founded by Dutch immigrants in the 1870s, Lynden celebrates its roots with Dutch-style architecture, a large windmill landmark, and cultural traditions that shape the town’s identity.

The Glenning Schoolyard in Lynden traces back to a donation by early settler Holden and Phoebe Judson, and its recent preservation reflects deep community philanthropy; the 4‑acre site was purchased by the City of Lynden largely with donated funds after the school district declared it surplus, transforming fields once used for PE and ball games into a public green space.
