Did You Know?

Lake Samish (population of 750) covers about 810 acres, gets as deep as 140 feet and 8.1 miles of shoreline. Long before European settlers arrived in the 1880s, the Samish people lived in villages along the lake, making it an area rich in both natural beauty and history.

Glenhaven Lakes (population of 150) is a residential community located between Bellingham and Burlington, situated in the hills near several small lakes, including Cain Lake and Reed Lake. The area features forested hills and provides residents with relatively easy access to nearby lakes and mountain areas.

Chuckanut Drive (population of 1,000) is a 21‑mile scenic byway from northern Skagit County into Whatcom County along Samish and Bellingham Bays. It began in the 1890s as a logging road and was fully paved by 1916. The route runs along the Chuckanut Formation — 40+ million-year-old sedimentary rocks where fossils of palm fronds and other relics can still be seen.
